Meet Janice

For Janice Gibos, Fort St. John isn’t just home — it’s the place that made her life possible.

Born and raised in the community, Janice grew up surrounded by familiar faces, outdoor spaces, and a strong sense of connection. As she got older and began travelling beyond Northern BC, she realized just how unique her hometown really was. While other places offered excitement and novelty, Fort St. John stood out for something deeper: community, opportunity, and room to build a meaningful life.

“I would not have the career success or the family I have built if I lived anywhere else.”

Today, Janice is the owner and operator of Little Dandelions Childcare Centre, a role that reflects both her entrepreneurial spirit and her commitment to supporting local families. Her days are full, balancing work, parenting her young twins, and fitting in walks, fitness classes, and time with friends, all within minutes of home.

That ease of movement is part of what she values most about living here. Daily life doesn’t revolve around long commutes or schedules that feel rushed. Instead, there’s time to connect, to run into people you know, and to take part in the community in meaningful ways.

Janice is continually surprised by how her circle keeps growing. Even after more than four decades in Fort St. John, she continues to meet new people, build new friendships, and feel supported by those around her.

“It’s small enough to know most people, but big enough to always be meeting new friends.”

Much of Janice’s life revolves around the outdoors, especially in the summer. Time spent near the Beatton River, Peace Island Park, local trails, and parks is a constant for her and her family. The Community Forest holds a special place, a welcoming, accessible space that offers something different with every visit.

In the winter months, that rhythm shifts indoors: walking tracks, exercise classes, coffee with friends, and community events like Christmas markets. It’s a seasonal balance that Janice appreciates and embraces.

For those considering a move to Fort St. John, Janice describes a place that offers the best of both worlds. All the essential amenities are here, larger centres are still within reach, and outdoor activities are part of everyday life. Most importantly, it’s a place where families can grow, and people genuinely look out for each other.

“It’s a friendly, extremely generous community — a great place to grow up and raise a family.”

When Janice talks about what Fort St. John has given her, her message is simple and certain. The support, generosity, and opportunity she’s found here have shaped her life in ways she doesn’t take for granted. For her, this is a place to dig deep, build something lasting, and truly belong.
